No.

I'll be in Frankfurt next week, if you get that way let me know and we can have a Gluhwein at the Holiday market.

Smoking Weed in Amsterdam: A Tourist's Comparison of Coffeeshops

Might come in handy.

Amsterdam this time of year is lots of fun. Quieter during the week, too. But fucking cold: if you haven't packed for wintry and windy, be prepared to spend too many euros on thermals.

The question is: will you be there long enough to see Sinterklaas and his politically-incorrect helpers?

Have a good time in Hamsterdamn!

So jealous. Hint: Utrecht is even nicer, and without all the tourists - and connected to A'dam by night train, so you can party and then head back at 3 am.

And don't forget to order some "frites met" aka fries with mayonnaise. Hup Holland!!!

Have fun, it's a great town, but do pack warm clothing. I particularly recommend the art museums, especially the Rijksmuseum (sp?) and the Vincent van Gogh museum.

With the Euro at ~$1.50, I can't afford Europe these days. Have fun!

You better hit up those coffee shops for your readers!

What for? To research how euthanasia benefits could be included in a universal healthcare "plan"?

Not-terribly wonky health care wonkery: a comparative chart of presidential candidate health care plans, lovingly assembled by the AFL-CIO.

I've never been to Amsterdam. Stay way from all those places you wouldn't want your mom to find out about. ;-)

Try the weed. I hear its pretty good.

Be sure to check out Rijsttafel on Spuistraat. It's an incredible Indonesian place.

Rijsttafel is excellent. I'll second that recommendation.

Also, any kind of pfannekeuken or poffertjes would be good to try...

Don't forget Cafe Luxembourg - a great international cafe with newspapers from around the world. http://www.diningcity.com/ams/luxembourg/en/

Don't miss out on the Indonesian food over there, it's absolutely fantastic.

Also, I really love the public library in Amsterdam. Not exactly touristy, but quite the cool architecture.

The coolest place to smoke, the preferred haunt of celebrities and politicians alike is, De Dampkring. It's just a little coffee shop about a block away from the flower market, just east, if I remember correctly, of the Jolly Hotel Carlton in the center of town.

I recommend the Bubble Gum, and the Amnesia (but smoke this one only if you don't have anything pressing to do for the next four to six hours). The grass is very seasonal, so ask the people behind the counter what's best today. The grasshopper is also a cool place with good smoke at reasonable prices, though the way the dollar has fallen I think you're only getting €150 for every $300 these days.

Holland rules, and blows America away in many ways. It's funny the Dutch seem to see us Americans as rather quaint. Have fun.

Sorry, that's just WEST of the Jolly Hotel Carlton. Google maps actually gives the wrong location for de Dampkring, and has for some time, and I think this may be intentional.

I had some difficulty finding it when I was in Amsterdam. But trust me, it's well worth finding, very well worth finding. Definitely one of the coolest places in the city, that the locals are rather protective of, so you better look cool if you want someone to give you the right directions.

Sorry, I was right the first time de Dampkring is just EAST of the Jolly Hotel Carlton on one of the little back streets.
