"If you look at the people who're advising Rudy Giuliani, it turns out they were the ones who were too insane, or too extreme, to get on Bush's team."

Like Matt, I've been struggling with how to properly convey the quantum leap in danger that a Giuliani win would entail. He's not just another Republican. He's not even another Bush. He's constructed a foreign policy team that is almost unimaginably dangerous and aggressive. And since he's never had much foreign policy experience himself, they will be the ones who dictate his worldview, and take on the issues. As I said, I've been having trouble conveying this in print. But it turns out a video is worth a thousand words.

The video is indeed worth a thousand words but unfortunately Marshall actually uses about two or three times that number.

On Podhoretz and his "no option on Iran":

Vlad the Impaler has a couple of SS-18's with Norm's name on them.

"And since he's never had much foreign policy experience himself, they will be the ones who dictate his worldview, and take on the issues."

I think it is even worse than that. As mayor, Giuliani was a very odd duck. He is intelligent and hard-working, and actually looked promising, in a Michael Bloomberg kind of way, for about a year or so. But although I think he understood the situation in NY reasonably well, he could never get all that excited about working on it: fiscal balance, education, infrastructure, housing, land use, economic diversification, services, you name it. After about a year of being serious about being mayor, he gave up, and reverted to playing cops and robbers for the next 6-7 years. Again, let me repeat: this is not an cognitive limitation of Rudy; he is a smart guy. But he really isn't interested in anything else. It's all cops and robbers to him.

So its not going to be a bunch of insane extremists leading an ignorant Rudy by the nose. Rudy is smart enough not to be led by the nose, and can learn quickly, if he needs to. But Rudy is himself an insane extremist. He is an operatic guy, uninterested in anything that does not involve applying violence to the eeevil.

Josh failed to mention that David Frum recently signed on to Giuliani's campaign as an advisor.

Wow, I'm with Joe S. Rudy doesn't doubt the Rudy. He's a little like George Bush without the "How would Jesus justify this?" self-reflection.

But the seriousness of his candidacy is a real comment on the place the GOP is at today. "What America needs is a Nixon-Dubya hybrid!"

I'm more worried about our children. And, living overseas, I would frankly not want to have to hear it again for electing another one of these assholes.

A little off topic, but not too much. Does anyone else think that Markos Moulitsos Zuniga is on hormones because he is planning to become a woman? A lot of his foreign policy musings seem related to pms and he is looking more feminine by the hour.
