The Senator Does Not Recall
Not to be too snarky here, but shouldn't the aging Thompson choose something a bit less risky than "I can't remember" as an excuse to avoid talking about policy? 2005, after all, was only two years ago.
And Fred, you may not remember whether you support Social Security privatization, but the internets do. The answer is yes.

Maybe Thompson is angling to be appointed attorney general.

Fred is the only Republican that has a possibility of exciting the party.

Not fair, Ezra. What Thompson can't remember is Bush's plan, which is unremarkable, since Bush never had the guts to put forward a plan.
Or do I remember incorrectly? I'm sure that for a long time Bush refrained from putting forth a proposal, and he never proposed actual legislation.

He's the perfect GOP candidate, a lazy actor with an impaired memory who listens to the political tips of his arrogant wife. No wonder the neocons idolize him.
Of course, Fred does have a trait that Dutch didn't; he's temperamental and can get very testy at times. Think Giuliani's bad? Wait for Fred to unload on some poor sap after a day pressing the flesh and talking to ignorant Republicans.
