Music!

I got into the office today to find a big ol' box o' music from the fine folks at History Major Records. I haven't listened to any of it yet, but the packaging is all very promising. I'm mostly interested in the CD from Bedford Academy, which came with a post-it note describing them as "Ex-hardcore kids from post-industrial New England making soft emo pop," which is the most hilarious thing I've just about ever heard. Forget the music, I'm thinking profile!

Meanwhile, I'm currently listening to a lot of Matt Pond PA, and just found his cover of Oasis's Champagne Supernova:

"Ex-hardcore kids from post-industrial New England making soft emo pop,"

I envision a shuttered Rust Belt landscape, on which pierced and tattooed young men are making a futile effort to play electric guitars without plugging them in. The members of a small audience repeatedly bump into each other, apologizing, and it takes a while for you to realize that they're trying to mosh politely.

"Ex-hardcore kids from post-industrial New England making soft emo pop" sounds like the least promising thing I could possibly imagine.

"Ex-hardcore kids from post-industrial New England making soft emo pop,"

This essentially describes 1000 different bands over the last 8-10 years.

I fear that a 16 year old girl has stolen Ezra's computer.

Sigh. That line was to be taken ironically, as it's a hilarious description.

Ezra, in cyberspace no one can hear you being ironic.

has there ever been someone who earnestly embraced their music being called "emo"?

that being said, NtEW took it to great heights.

I like Matt Pond PA's version better than Oasis. However, it remains the only thing of his I've ever heard. What else of his is worthwhile?

This is my favorite Matt Pond PA song:

Dunno about this, but there are (and this may be even more embarrassing) definitely teenagers who refer to themselves as emo, and they get really, like, hurt, dude, when people like YOU totally make fun of emo, like, yeah, it's real hilarious that we have feelings, huh??? Well, at least we're not fucking corporate sellouts man! We see the world like it is, and that world? It hurts, dude. Hurts like so much pain. Like being pierced with arrows. In your SOUL. And the arrows have flaming tips. In your SOUL. Man, you can't even imagine, man, if you don't get it. We get it. Alright? So just go screw yourself while I go listen to Bright Eyes. I like to listen to Bright Eyes when I cut out letters from magazines to make journal entries (cuz like, they're ransom notes... to myself... to release my true self... at the price of falseness) because Conor? He gets it, man. He gets me. Fuck, where'd I put my square black glasses?
