Google Has Failed Us
by Stephen of the Thinkery
Update: It's back. Thanks for the commisseration. Dumb "i"Google.
This may not be what Ezra had in mind for his guest bloggers, but does anyone have an idea of what's going on with Google?
I had a fairly customized set of tabs, and now they are gone, replaced by "iGoogle." I can't even re-personalize the homepage; every change I make is lost immediately.
So, any answers from the smartest people on the net? Any better options out there to access and manage an extremely wide variety of content?

Mine changed to iGoogle too, but I'm not having the problems you're having. My tabs work the same as before, so I'm really no help.
However, I do find the themes really weird... frog/ladybug cricket? asian squirrel/foxes...?
They're all so strange.
Though, the old fart at the bus stop is pretty cute... waving at no one...

Google launched their new customizable homepage product today: iGoogle. Some info here.

Thanks, fiat lux. It appears to be standard-grade new product bugs.
I've had a customized homepage with Google for quite some time. So I'm not sure why they've needed a change.

want to bet that Apple gets its undies in a twist over Google daring to use the iGoogle name?
like all companies that acquire firms like they are basebal cards, they can't manage what they buy. How long has google mail been in 'beta'? Hello Daimler-Chrysler! now that they bought youtube, maybe they should acquire xtube.com as well.... (lol)

I don't use tabs but mine works just fine. I like my asian fox squirrell thing.

Other than an "i" before the word Google, my Google homepage is exactly the same as it was before. Just sayin'.

Mine was snarfed for a while too. Seems to have come back now. Probably best to just wait out the glitches. :)

OTOH, YouTube has received a substantial improvement in perceived performnance lately, for the active YouTubers at least, with much faster posting of comments, views, and all the other stats that dedicated YouTubers live by.

I became concerned when Google aquired Blogger, gaining an instant database of demographic information that can be linked to search requests. Now that they are trying to buy the marketing/datamining company, Doubleclick, I no longer trust them, placed them in my restricted sites, and quit using my Blogger account.
