Quote of the Day

"It's vile. It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."—Former Florida Rep. Mark Foley, referring to President Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal. (Via Jill.)

This is why normal people cannot be politicians - especially GOP politicians. A normal person's head would catch fire if he tried to be so blantantly mendacious. Normal people have souls and ethics and stuff like that. Normal people get embarassed. These guys - not so much.

Things are looking worse for the House leadership, as more details emerge. Kirk Fordham, a former aide to Foley who just resigned from his position working for Congressman Reynolds, has told the AP that he talked to House leadership at the staff level a couple years ago about Foley's inappropriate behavior towards pages. He hasn't said what he told the staff, but he was working for Foley when he was sending the far more obviously incriminating IMs. Fordham has suggested, to my way of reading his comments, that what he told the leadership's staff was more than they've admitted so far.

This isn't direct evidence that Hastert knew more than he said he did, but it seems likely that several staffers did, and that this fact has been covered up at some level.
