Waking up at 7:45am Eastern time to see me on C-SPAN, of course. I can't honestly imagine you'd have anything better to do with your Saturday morning than awaken at the crack of dawn, flip on Washington Journal, and hear me chat about politics for 45 minutes.

Can I just say how much I hate the fact that the goddamn time fascists on the goddamn East Coast impose their schedule on the rest of the goddamn world? 4:45 am isn't the crack of dawn; it isn't within spitting distance of the crack of dawn; it's (literally) 2,000 miles or so from the crack of dawn.

Not blaming you, Ezra...but damn, I hate the East Coast.

Ryan, yes -- I'm a TNR subscriber and there is now an "apology to readers" from Franklin Foer on the main page. It says that the posts by "sprezzatura" on the comment threads of Siegel's blog posts were written with Siegel's participation, and in consequence they no longer publish his blog and he is suspended from writing for the magazine.

Googling "lee siegel sprezzatura" still got me the comments on the "coda to kincaid" post, where one "jhschwartz" got in a pissing contest with "sprezzatura" and openly speculated that the latter was actually Siegel. A lot of other references now just link to Foer's apology, so you might want to look now to see what Siegel got taken down for.

There ought to be an interesting story behind this. Actually, the interesting story is what the hell Wieseltier ever saw in the guy in the first place.

Hi Ezra,

Bravo to your appearence on CSPAN .. my faith is renewed.

Its been many many years since i've heard the progressive (avoiding the "L" label) view .. spoken so articulately .. without defensiveness and without an unfocused passion that unfortunately shifts attention from the idea being expressed. You speak so very succinctly and with clear reason that I hope your inevitable rise as a spokesman (and thus celebrity) does not detract from peoples ability to receive your viewpoint.

Keep up the good work.

Hey Ezra,

Great segment on C-Span this morning! I was hoping to have been a caller, but to no avail. :( I like that you brought a "centrist" swing to your comments. It sounds to me that the Republocrats...hope that's right? :)........would be similar to some conservative-democrats....or centrists in general. I'm also glad you mentioned the Rev Jim Wallis. In his book, God's Politics. He addresses the need for a 4th voting block, those for whom religon is very important (social values) and progressive on econonmics and social justice. I enjoyed that book as well and enjoyed seeing you on C-Span. I hope I get to see much more of you on the air. :) Good Work!

I saw you on cspan this morning. Very good. I sent you email. Regarding National Defense, REPUBLICANS appear weak on national defense. Only the REPUBLICANS have actually demonstrated their weakness on terrorism and national defense on Sept 11, 2001 when the Bush administration failed to defend America, while 2750 people died.

Anyone who believes Republicans appear strong on national defense either apears in denail or works for the Republican party congressional and senatorial campaigns in 2006 and for the RNC in 2008

You're a hoot ezra. I made my wife watch the show because I told her you were a health care policy wonk for the Democrats. I also told her you were really smart. When it was over I said, "When was the last time you ever heard a Democrat brave enough to say, Health Savings Accounts?" She said, "He's a smart guy."

She also said, "He said his issue is health care but he didn't have much to say."

Her first comment during the show was, "He is such a young man why is he against Personal Savings Accounts in Social Security?" That's because we have 3 children about your age ezra.

She has been the voice in radio and TV commercials for over 10 years. The other person we use is the voice of Disney's employee manual. They both have perfect pitch. So I'm going to tell you what she said when it was over. Don't get mad. She said, "If he is going to be on TV he needs a speech coach because he is a mumbler."

Social Security Fact: If you were born in 1880 in 1937 Social Security started and you were 57 years old. Your Social Security tax returned a 20% annual rate of return. If you were born in 1950 your annual rate of return will be down to 5%. If you were born after 1980 your annual rate of return is below 1%. Wake up ezra, Social Security is as dead as employer-based health insurance. It's just a matter of TIME.

Wouldn't you prefer to have the option to take your Social Security tax, the tax that comes out of your pay check, DOUBLED by your employer and sent to the bank, FDIC insured, with a mutual fund option in a tax free PSA? With just 4% growth at 67, your age for Social Security, you would have a mountain of money. Remember, every 6 years we wait to give young people this reform or option, your PSA balance will be cut in half at 67 years of age.

Don't wait 18 years, ezra, before we reform Social Security because your tax free PSA balance at age 67 will be just a small fraction of what it would be if Social Security reform was passed today.

I think the PSA investment options should include stocks, real estate and discounted notes, exactly like an IRA or HSA. My HSA balance is 100% in AIZ and the tax free growth is over 8% per year. A lot more.

Ron, get over it already. America has been and always will be a better place when folks can get together and work collectivly to solve problems. Encouraging people to go it alone with health savings accounts and private social security accounts sounds like fun to the libertarians but for most folks it is better if we can get together and keep SS stable by taxing capital gains at a higher rate, right now 15% isn't very fair to people who actually work for a living, and we can fix healthcare if we start holding insurance companies responsible for their price gouging, and maybe embrace a not for profit system that gets everyone into the insurance pool.

Your libertarian solutions to our problems won't work, but I do admire your pluck. How much are you getting paid to pimp these ideas, if you don't mind me asking?
