What Do We Look Like?

Now here's an interesting game: What do you think your favorite bloggers look like? We've all got mental images of the powers behind the keyboard, what are yours? (Try to do folks you haven't seen an actual picture for). As it happens, I've met nearly every blogger I read regularly, so I'm probably disqualified from playing. I will say that my mental image of Intueri's author is 5'6", with short black hair, indie glasses, and doing the jitterbug in a polka dot dress. I think that comes from some post about her dancing at a wedding, but I'm not positive.

I have been around so long and so wide I have seen a picture of about everybody I regularly read. Although I suspect there are at least three Matt Yglesias's, and I have only seen two.

echidnae has glistening coral snakes woven in her hair..and a sort of an emerald green mermaid tail, and a tongue, like all bloggers, that can have fangs when necessary....and she has a chidnae-shaped swimming pool in the garden...
...and ezra, we have seen your photograph...so we know you are a handsome bodhisattvha.

As a whole, I'd say that we're better looking than could be expected for people who choose to spend most of their disposible time tap-tapping into the ether. But then, I would say that.

Same as Bob. Though I can say that Lance Mannion has always struck me as a towering, Abe Lincoln-sans-beard figure.

I've seen pictures of most, although there's always the elusive, of-unconfirmed-gender Digby.

I've always had the sneaking suspicion that S.Z. over at World o' Crap was hot (as well as being one of the funniest bloggers). Can anyone confirm that one?

I imagined Digby as a man until I heard that "he" is in fact female. I'm still not sure of the right answer, not that it really matters.

I have "TPM Reader DK" as a middle-aged man with a substantial beard.

I used to have visions of what radio dj's looked like. I was generally wrong. Now I've seen enough to know what a "face made for radio" is.

Hi Ezra. You get an "A" for effort for your guess about my appearance, but alas, I am actually a man. A man who is more handsome than you. Even when I am wearing a polka dot dress.

Although I suspect there are at least three Matt Yglesias's, and I have only seen two.

Four.

Laura Rozen -- skinny, brown-haired, and the first person to yell "Get down!" when there's incoming fire.

All you bloggers have turned out to be alot uglier than I originally pictured when I eventually have seen your photos...

Posted by: Adrock | Aug 29, 2006 5:16:26 PM

Ezra is so freaking hot. Any chance he has a gay twin brother?

Posted by: NORes | Aug 29, 2006 5:44:04 PM

And wow, I had never thought about Digby maybe being a woman. I always imagined him(?) as a very conservative-looking father type, maybe even complete with white hair. But there is something a bit feminine about his writing style, I suppose...

I just assume bloggers are faceless, and live inside my computer.

Sorry about treating the home so badly, guys!

I imagined Kos as taller and darker-haired than he turned out to be when I saw him on TV. I imagine a lot of men are darker-haired than they actually turn out to be--probably because I'm rather fond of dark hair/dark eyes, something that dates back to times long before I married an Italian or became a fan of Italian soccer.

I imagine the Dark Wraith as a very Gothic sort, a bearded professor who's always got a coffee cup in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I see the Rude Pundit as somewhat Hunter Thompson-ish, similarly slim and bespectacled only better looking, with tattered jeans and an interesting collection of vintage (non-repro) rock t-shirts. I bet he has a half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels--and at least a few roaches in an ashtray--on his desk.

When I met Shakes this summer, she was exactly as I'd imagined her (I'd seen only one small photo); Mr. Shakes was taller than I expected.

Well, if you read the comments section here thoroughly, then you know that I affirm Ezra as the hottest lil' number on the internet. At least for the guys.

But now that I have permission, of sorts, I would like to let everyone know that litbrit is seriously gorgeous. It's in a cool Brit way, which totally coincides with her writing style.

I was surprised by Kos, but mainly 'cause he was a soldier. Duncan looks about right. Digby has to wear thick glasses with big rims, no matter if she is a he or if he is a she.

Nicholas completely surprised me, though I don't know why. Neil is about right for a complete nerd (hyperbolic!). But his looks and his advanced degrees in philosophy apparently work for the opposite sex, so it's not like it's a bad thing.

"Ezra as the hottest lil' number on the internet. At least for the guys."

Not this guy. Although Ezra is really cute, he lacks the seasoning, independence (I am talking looks only of course), free-spiritedness, and wisdom of a true lefty blogpundit. IOW, not enough hair. I recommend Dave Johnson of Seeing the Forest. And not just cause he looks like me, only taller and with a little less hair.

Actually Farber could be my brother. If he had more hair.

Actually...anybody ever watch the Addams Family?

Hottest little number on the Internet?

Isn't that like saying "most intellectual Fox News morning host?"

Posted by: Chris R | Aug 30, 2006 10:56:20 AM

Markos is shorter than you'd expect.

I still haven't gotten over Lindsay Beyerstein changing her pic.

When the "talkies" came the "silents" stars were often has-beens because of their voices. When radio was overtaken by TV the stars changed again. If blogging changes into interactive IM, what then ?
I'm just thinking in terms of the differences modes of communications make in our preceptions. We live in a very volatile world.

"Ezra Klein: I thought he was older than me. I nearly fell out of my chair when I realized that I am nearly six years older than him."

Hahahahahahaha. Klein, you're a middle-aged man trapped in a young man's body. Luckily for you, that's a problem that's fixing itself even as I type this.
