Democrats Hold Their Ground, Win

The Democrats managed to pull of a filibuster Thursday night, shutting down the GOP attempt to cut the estate tax by tying it to a minimum wage increase. As Mike Caudle explains at the Edwards Blog, it wasn't even a totally legit minimum wage increase -- it would've reduced wages for lots of workers who make money off of tips. As I noted over at TAPPED, I found it odd that Frist named his bill the "Trifecta" bill. Why would you want to name your bill after one of the longest longshots in all of betting? What's next, the "Lotto Jackpot" bill?
Where's Frank Luntz when you need him?

The Seattle-based Blethen family has been moving heaven and earth to shtitcan the estate tax, in order to 'save their newspapers'.
Our Portland (ME) Press Herald, never a very good paper, has gone to shite since the Blethens bought it.

My concern is for how this vote will be portrayed in the media. Will the media say that republicans tried to pass a minimum wage bill and democrats voted against it? I say a teaser on CNN that suggested just that, followed by charts from the economic policy institute on how poorly the minimum wage has done versus inflation. I was appalled.
The story after the commercial break mentioned the estate tax repeal, but it still portrayed the bill as primarily an increase in the minimum wage.
I hope media matters keeps up on this one.
