Booker's Back

It's good to hear that Cory Booker overwhelmingly captured Newark's mayorship last night. Much of my family is from New Jersey, and just about the first political act I ever took part in was flying out with my older brother to work on the last day's of his 2002 campaign. I was convinced then, as I am now, that the guy is a phenom, and it'll be nice to see him given the chance to prove it. While I'm skeptical that the Newark mayor can actually do very much, I'm nevertheless convinced that Booker's ascension is symbolically important for the city in a way that might translate into tangible benefits, namely through increased business and upper middle class resettlement.

Its nice that there are places where being a suburban-raised vegetarian minority liberal can get you elected in a minority-dominated city. Good for Newark!

The NYT piece didn't indicate if Booker got his slate of city commission seats to back him up. Even with that, it takes decades for a city to reverse course. I sure wouldn't welcome that challenge.

Booker essentially a Bloomberg, without the money (yet) and the party switch (yet).

Hi! my name is Francine.
I live in Newark New Jersey.
In a low paying complex called New Community
There is a lot of conflict going on in the Maine Offices, located on West Market Street and South Orange Avenue where I live.
There are people living in the town houses working and with cars paying little or nothing for rent.
While the disabled and a few others are being abuse.
We elect Corey Booker because he promise too clean this city up.
Every part of New Community is drug infected.
A lot of killings is taking place behind gang related and drug lords.
You have a lot of people put in behind related relatives working in the offices.
And we who are barley making it is being told too keep our mouth shut or get thrown out.
Will some one please! help us!
At this very moment i'm a victim and is being treated unfairly.

Sincerely
Francine Sanderson
