That Wasn't Quite My Point
My long quest to single-handedly lower the quality of public discourse has finally borne fruit -- in USA Today, no less (I know, lowering the public discourse in USA Today is kinda redundant). Read down to the end. And then read my original post. That Tim Kaine is ugly wasn't quite my point, though, to be fair, it was certainly part of it.
Sigh. Somebody better convene a blogger ethics panel.

If you think you're the only one endeavoring to lower the discourse, you my friend, are quite mistaken.

youch. if you could have usa today tell tim kaine one thing you wrote in your blog, i bet you'd have rather had it be, "why not be nice to the gays? pretty please?"
i don't know the level of his antipathy toward gays and lesbians, but otherwise, kaine sounded very good on the radio, and he cares about blogs. we should support him, and hopefully encourage him to come around to supporting equality for everyone.

exact transcription from USA Today:
Liberal writer Ezra Klein atezraklein.typepad.com was unimpressed.
Sometimes even a missing space between a word and a link makes fun results.
Warning to prominient writers: Don't expect reporters to choose your balanced meal of thoughts when they can instead choose candy.

And yet no mention of the awful pun. Clearly liberal media bias!

Ezra,
Calling a guy a poor orator and then incorrectly describing the shape of his nose in the same breath is harsh and painful to read. But kudos on the USA Today quote. Content aside, that is cool.
Obama can't give every speech for the Democratic Party, and the strategists are clearly going intentionally outside the beltway (but also looking for a short commute, apparently).
The SOTU response is a tough gig either way though. The audience that doesn't change channels goes from watching the President getting standing ovations to some dude sitting in his office.

Is there some kind of rule that says the SOTU response has to take place in an office?
Put Kaine, or whoever, in the middle of the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans. Dare the media to cover it.

People who distort blogposts know they are performing an immoral or self-serving act. Asking them to be ethical, or reminding them to be ethical, will probably not be effective!

Theo has exactly the right idea. My Democrats can't challenge President Bush or his party by not pointing out their failures.
The media would have to cover it and they would hate being put in that position. Good.
We need to challenge, and challenge again.
Waiting for the media to point out GOP untruths and half-truths is the path to continued failure.
