Question: How Tough Should Dems Get?

Shakes here...

Regarding Ezra’s post yesterday on the increasingly appalling poll numbers Bush is getting these days, and the quite evident widespread dissatisfaction with his performance, I’ve noticed that the words resignation, impeachment, and recall are starting to pop up more and more frequently. Brad DeLong has started ending many of his posts with “Impeach George W. Bush. Impeach him now.” Last night, Bill Maher suggested a “California-style” recall election. ChrisJ at MyDD posted an open letter to the president, asking for not only his resignation for “gross incompetence, negligence, lack of compassion and demonstrable policy failure,” but also those of Cheney, Rice, Chertoff, and Brown. And there are plenty of rumblings elsewhere—some half-humorous, and some deadly serious.

I tend not to like the old “imagine if Clinton had…” thing, but at this point, my thought is that the Democrats need to be sticking their faces into every camera even vaguely aimed in their direction and calling for his impeachment, and put the onus on the GOP to explain why they were willing to impeach a president for lying about a blowjob, but aren’t willing to investigate or in any way hold accountable a president whose incompetence and bad policies have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans. I know that the Dems don’t have the votes to get it done, which is an oft-asserted excuse for why they shouldn’t bother, but I think it’s necessary at this point to regain control of the dialogue. Let Bush and Co. go on the offensive for awhile and steal their ability to turn this into another bit of revisionist history where the president comes out a hero as Brownie takes the fall.

Americans like two things very much in politics—making heroes, and watching heroes fall. It might be up to our side (for a change) to decide which story takes the day.

What do you think?

That's the topic today over at Ezra Klein's site. Shakes wants it, while Ezra and Neil don't. Thinking about it, Ezra's right: a Cheney presidency would be, at best, just as bad as the Bush presidency. My one reason for [Read More]

Never happen, Shakes! We would look shrill!!! LOL. (note wingnut exclamation points).

I think a better move is to avoid the impeachment word, and just continually call for a 'change of government' (or whatever words BushCo used on Saddam) and let the voters figure out what that means for 06 and 08.

But, I'm a flexible, liberal, progressive, reality-oriented guy, so I'll go along:

Impeach Asshole George Bush and Dickhead Cheney!

Call for a "regime change," instead? LOL. I like it.

And being a flexible, liberal, progressive, reality-oriented gal myself, I'll happily go along with whatever semantic arrangement works.

Impeach Asshole George Bush and Dickhead Cheney!

It does have a certain ring to it.

Impeach and then remove from office. Pressure to resign. Anything. Just get them all out so we can begin to repair what's left of the country.

I have a bad feeling about attempting to push the impeachment meme. Afterall, this is the administration who took us to war to win two elections already. This administration will fall, dragged down into the muck by its own dead weight in due time. Pushing it hard may only serve to convince it that another war might rescue it from well deserved oblivion.

Give it some time. The fearsome Republican PR machine is running redlined and now oilless remediating Bush's failure in Louisana while simultaneously attempting to shoo away the foreign policy pitbull that has clamped down firmly on its ample butt. At the moment, we need only to watch it self destruct, at least until the voters begin paying attention to Election 2006. The last thing I want to do is to distract the voters from the spectacle by offering up a cheesy sideshow.

If we capture the House in 2006, then we own the power to investigate, and there is plenty to investigate.

I have a good feeling about the impeachment meme.

I think it will do two things: 1) create a public discussion during the Democratic primaries - some candidates will be for impeachment, some will not - it can be tested in a democratic forum, 2) force the Republicans to defend this adminstration - they don't do well on the defensive.

The alternative is what - "elect us to stonewall Bush for the last two years of his term" - oh that's a winner.

In the ancient era, the viagra influence was nowhere to be found as the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra didn’t came into being at that time. Specific details on impotence and pre-viagra age inform us that in that period men relied on Unani, Chinese, Herbal and other medications to treat their erectile dysfunction. But with the arrival of the modern age, Viagra was manufactured and approved by the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) as an effective treatment of erectile dysfunction and after that the drug emerged extremely successful in treating impotence in modern society. Other than erectile dysfunction, Viagra has also evolved as an effective medicine to treat pulmonary hypertension and other ailments and this has further increased the popularity of viagra in global society.
