In Which Your Faithful Narrator Engages in a Bit of Gallows Humor

This is fairly good news: we seem to have created a vaccine for Avian Bird Flu. Huzzah! Now all I have to worry about are super volcanoes under Yellowstone, nuclear/biological/chemical terrorism when I move to DC, incurable illnesses, mad cow disease, plane crashes and car accidents, lighting strikes, that massive earthquake LA's supposedly due for, household accidents, being drafted into a calamitous war with Iran, asteroid impact, and some miscellaneous disasters I'm forgetting.

I'm off to curl up in a corner now.

It may be far to early to declare victory on the bird flu vaccine. Recall that last year the few (only two, I believe) manufacturers of flu vaccine couldn't supply enough stuff to meet the annual need until very late in the flu season. Fauci has become over time a hack and flack for Rosy Scenario.

Another global disaster waiting to happen for your list: Another Republican NeoCon/TheoCon/CorpCon elected in 08 to the Presidency.

And how about a multiple-meter rise in the ocean levels due to all that polar ice (both poles) being melted? The rate of melt seems to be increasing, and it appears that only 3-5 degrees C up or down globally will start or stop the ice-age versus global dessert cycle. We are part way up on that cycle already and ocean temps are rising fast. DC would be under water.

Oh, and have a good week cringing in the corner. A blanket helps. And a puppy (or pony)!

Don't forget about War With China, or the collapse of the housing bubble.

Good luck with your finals.

I always play the odds and worry about heart disease and malignant tumors, myself.

And then there's gout.

And avalanches.

In 1811 there was an 8.9 earthquake along the Mississippi, and we're due for another. The difference is that this time it'll collapse all the levees holding the Mississippi in place.

Don't forget the shutting down of the Great Conveyor Belt, dropping temperatures seriously in the North Atlantic (and raising them further south).

Actually... there's a lot more to worry about...

You also have to worry about redundancy (Avian means Bird).
