Keep the People Stupid

First they came for PBS, and I wrote a long blog post about it. Then they came for NPR, and Laura Rozen wrote the post I would've written about it, so you should just read her. Suffice to say that I hope the billion dollars Joan Kroc bequeathed to the station allows NPR to (and my grandparents should stop reading right about now) tell Kenny Tomlinson and the CPB to shove it up their ass. Less news? A dedicated effort to policing the station's Middle East coverage? You have got to be kidding me.

Wow. I think I have officially emptied both my auxiliary and emergency supplies of outrage. Because a fair number of people are POed and I'm not feeling it. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I think I was done after the Abolish All Laws provision for the fence building in the Homeland Security Act.

As the Times article points out, NPR gets only a tiny sliver of its funding from CPB. But a lot of the stations that carry NPR, especially in flyover country, rely rather more on CPB.

The likely upshot here is less NPR in just the parts of the country where the AM band is wall-to-wall Rush, Savage, Dr Laura, Hannity, O'Reilly.

Tomlinson: typical knuckle-dragging Bush admin thug. It's outrageous that NPR should even have to return the phone calls of such a barbarian.

Ezra, it's worse than you think.

One by one the citadels of rational and fact-based thinking, reporting and action are falling before the rightist assault.

Having just watched the 3 part History Channel series on 'The Roman War Machine' (really a history-light review of the Roman Empire), it is amazing how the old republic morphed into an empire that could no longer defend itself against continuing assaults, both internal and external.

As I grow increasing pessimistic, I look around and say to myself "how will this self-destructive political and military behavior be reversed?" and "who will provide the galvanizing leadership than can unite the citizenry to save our own republic?"

The dark ages lasted a very long time.

Don't miss Bill Moyer's response.

Family cruises are both educational and memorable. They are very fun giving. They provide peace of mind as the people are there far from the madding crowd. It helps to tread the untrodden world with assistance of your family members. What could be more interesting than this? Is it not so? Family cruises provide unity and togetherness among your family members.
