Blah

So apologies for the lack of content today. One of those days where I just haven't had much to say. That's the problem with keeping a 5-8 pieces a day posting schedule, when the inspiration runs dry you feel guilty. In any case, I'm working on the Germany Health of Nations right now, so that should be up soon. In the meantime, if any of you have found some particularly provocative articles around, leave them in comments for me.

Well, I've already mentioned this by email, but since it's pretty interesting I'll take the risk of being repetitive and mention it here too:

this is a pretty interesting article referencing this test which claims to identify unconscious racism.

Not sure if the methodology is 100% legit, but I agree with the results (basically, "most everybody has some unconscious gut-level racist thought patterns, despite ourselves"), and I think it has important implications for how best to get to where we want (i.e. racial harmony).

We'll need to fess up to who we are beneath the facade before we can fully fix the situation. Dredging this stuff up is not pretty, but I think it is necessary if we want to really move forward towards accepting each other. Superficial solutions just aren't enough, we have to honestly assess where we are right now as a society.

(To take the test from the second link, go to "demonstration"->"go to tests"->"wish to proceed"->"race IAT")

How about some more info than this teaser?:

I'm heading to Washington to -- hopefully! -- make an absurdly low wage as a writer.

Huh -- I thought I'd mentioned that round these parts. I've currently got applications in with The New Republic and The American Prospect for jobs next year. I should hear about interviews in a few weeks...

Quality, not quantity, Ezra!

Yeah, but if you can't achieve the former, you at least need the latter ;).

It's not a full-blown article, exactly, but Eric Alterman wrote a long response to the John Cloud interview in CJR daily. Alterman manages to be both devastating and beautiful, utterly destroying whatever claim Cloud had to respect by his peers without ever once losing his own dignity:

I was wondering if this article is accurate.
the fillibuster being a procedure rule that has changed a few times in the last 85 years & the last being 30 years ago??? I got the 85 from W Wilson being prez 1913 - 1921

OMG: Ezra don't get near Peter Beinart, you might get ruined.

J/K. Either TNR or AmPros. would both do very well to get you. The thought of you and MY arm-wresting over stuff does sound interesting.

BTW: After many years, I finally dropped my TNR subscription last summer when their war position and general scruffiness about Dems. got to me.

Yeah, but if you can't achieve the former, you at least need the latter ;)

Only if you aspire to Instapunditry . . .
