Fafblog!

So a buncha pointy-headed sciencey types are all upset because we're "using up resources" and "destroying the world." Well, boo hoo hoo! Do you hear that sound, sciencey-types? It is the world's largest violin playing just for the exhaustion of our natural resources. The violin is made entirely of mulched rainforest and played by enormous smoke-belching engines of steel and concrete, standing a thousand feet tall in glorious tribute to the undying achievement that has been man's rape of the natural world! Tomorrow it will be scrapped and replaced with a newer, bigger violin with built-in wireless and dolphin-exploding capabilities

Y'know, it's really funny when Republicans trash studies like this. A friend of mine had a part in the Ecosystem Project. She worked on it for five years. Five years, one project, working with scientists from all over the world.

I'm waiting for the wingnuts to come out and call it "junk science" because they read in the Bible that the Lord called for us to be fruitful and multiply, and He'll take care of us and suddenly change us so we can eat dust.

We don't need no stinkin' scientists! This is what you get when you don't get a faith-based education.
I'll bet if someone from Bob Jones University reruns those numbers, they'll find gas-guzzling SUVs, sewage-filled rivers and clear-cutting have actually increased the Earth's resources!

And by 2050, the world won't be able to feed everyone living, despite better farming, the report predicted.

I will bet my entire net worth as of that date that this prediction does not come true, even if none of the report's recommendations are implemented.

Ugh is 100% correct. I think this is a nice
example of Stein's law: "If something
can't go on forever, it won't."

The world will of course be able to feed
everyone living in 2050, since anyone without
enough food will be dead.

I stumbled across your blog while I was doing some online research. While I always try to respect other people's positions, I personally think that this issue transcends ideological differences. It shouldn't just be the bleeding heart liberals who care about our natural resources; this is a reality for all of us, and we should all care what we're leaving to future generations.
