Welcome!

I'm going to keep this atop the page for the day, or at least the morning. New posts will appear under it. If you've read the welcome message already, just scroll on down for fresh blogging goodness. If not, click "More" and have at it.

So here it is. My new site. Yeah, I know its small, and I haven't decorated it much, but it's comfy and I like it. Why are the walls so bare, you ask? Well, your host is utterly ignorant of all things HTML, and my knowledge reaches negative realms when CSS is brought into the equation. The only reason things are working at all is because Matt kindly donated his expertise, so give him a round of applause. As a result, if you've hung out over at his place, you'll be comfortable here. Remember kids, dropdown menus are fun. I've also tried to create a functional blogroll, separating sites by category and, when applicable, listing their specialty. I hope you'll get some use out of it.

As for why I'm on this minmalist Typepad spot instead of beneath the giant panda many of you know and love, my explanation is sadly mundane. I've been on group blogs for awhile now, first with Matt Singer at a tiny little blogspot hovel, then as one of the Not Geniuses, and finally with Jesse over at Pandagon. All of them made me better, helped my writing, expanded my horizons and have my gratitude. But, after two years, it felt like time to have a little place of my own, so here I am. In the future, I'll try and add pirates into stories that dull.

So for those here from Pandagon, it's good to see you. Those landing from elsewhere, hope you stick around (we got an RSS on the right, hint, hint). If something isn't working, needs to be added, or should be improved, drop me a note at ezrak AT ucla DOT edu and I'll do my best given my absurdly limited technical abilities. Otherwise, welcome, I hope you like it.

Added you to my blogroll, glad to see you putting up your own shingle. Look forward to the daily output (not to put pressure on you!)...

Can I be you're first troll?

Just kidding.

Great to see you taking the next step brings back memories of your old blogspot account and the fights you used to have on behalf of an old senator from Colorado.

My have times changed.

Welcome to the solo blogosphere. :-)

Don't change a thing. If anything, scale back.

Haven't you been paying attention to hip-hop culture? Retro is back in and should making its way to the suburbs any month now.

Good luck, Ezra.

dude, seriously, button your shirt. What kind of burlesque house you running here?

Posted by: slapshot57 | Jan 25, 2005 11:32:55 AM

Congratulations on leaving the nest. I'll be visiting your new home often.
I have one tiny technical quibble, that maybe Matt can help with: When you click on 'there's more' you're taken to the top post, instead of to the rest of whatever post you were reading. Not a big deal when you've only got 4 posts up, but could become annoying as the site gets larger. This doesn't happen at Matt's site, so there must be a way around it.

Posted by: flory | Jan 25, 2005 11:42:39 AM

Flory -- That doesn't happen for me. Anyone have any ideas?

Posted by: Ezra | Jan 25, 2005 11:47:03 AM

I'm with Slapshot -- for God's sake, this isn't the 70s -- what's next, gold chains?

You haven't read The Best and the Brightest?!? First off, you really need to even if we weren't in a situation that closely paralleled it. Second, it may be the best written, most compelling political book I've ever had the privilege to read.

More chest hair, please.

Posted by: praktike | Jan 25, 2005 11:52:36 AM

Congratulations on the new site. It's not "undecorated." It's minimalist. Spin, Ezra. Spin.

Posted by: Matt Singer | Jan 25, 2005 11:54:22 AM

Chris: That's what the wish list is for ;)

I always forget how dreamy you are. I look forward to adding you to my own blogroll, read by as many as 1 to 2 people per month!

Posted by: maurinsky | Jan 25, 2005 11:58:45 AM

Hey Ezra, congrats! It was a pleasure to co-blog with you at Dean Nation, too, but I think going solo is a long-overdue move.

Posted by: Aziz | Jan 25, 2005 12:00:39 PM

I fully and completely reject the tyranny of top buttons. Come with me, and be free.

But you're a DUDE!!

Congratulations, Ezra.

I like the new digs. A bit Spartan, but I'm sure you'll gussy the place up as time permits.

You are hereby added to my list of favorites. Now, say something smart, okay?

I added you to my blog roll. I always enjoy Pandagon and I expect to enjoy reading your new solo blog here. Keep on rockin'!

Though I hesitate to give any more encouragement to the peanut gallery, that picture makes you look distressingly similar to Brandon from 90210. The whole headshot thing is probably a no-win situation. I'd advise going the Jesse route and drawing up an animated Ezraklein mascot of some sort. Perhaps we could have a design contest.

love the aesthetics of your new site...
and always love to read the illuminating commentary from a sentient, deep person, and that would be you!!!!
best wishes for continued success and abundance with your wondrous writing.....
