Aw hell.

I have been expecting it, and just this morning refrained from clicking on the site because a death watch felt ghoulish. One of the earliest bloggers, and one of the best because he put passion and his person into his posts. Didn't get the most hits or make any money, but I think he set a standard for courage and integrity. May his archives remain up, and and his work read.

I extend my condolences to everybody. I am going to miss him so much.

Damn. Damn damn damn.

Jen's last update didn't sound good, and their decision to stop posting updates altogether sounded downright ominous, but I still hoped he'd pull through.

I didn't always agree with him, but I liked his brashness and the way he said what he said without giving a hoot if he offended someone's delicate sensibilities. And the way he tore bigots a new one on a regular basis was a real delight.

Goodbye, Steve. We need more like you.

If you can, get and sign a donor card.
Help fight diabetes and improve healthcare.
Be kind to NYC.
Take a kid to a museum;have a good meal with friends or family.
Remember that name on the internet has a world around it;that this day could be your last.
Write something blue and ornery and funny.
Help stop the fucking war.

One of the advantages of being Irish and sober is that lifting a shot can remain ceremonial and a sacrament;so I am going to have one for Steve. Now I am outa here.

Amen, Bob. Good words.
