Hilton Chain Expands To Prisons

I don't take pleasure in Paris Hilton being sentenced to prison, but it's an unambiguously positive social development. Like so many others, I instantly wrote off the idea that her crimes -- which have sent many others to jail, and for much longer -- would result in serious punitive measures. Save in particularly grievous instances, the rich just don't go to jail. The courts treat them differently. And on the rare occasions they are sent to jail, they can often pay a room-and-board fee to a smaller, nicer jail -- as if it were a hotel. That's a poisonous truth, and Hilton's punishment, regrettable though it may be, is a slight, and welcome, push in the other direction. The rich may inhabit a whole other economy, but they really shouldn't populate an entirely different legal system.

Are you kidding me? This is a fantastic development.

We haven't had a Reform School Girls, Caged Heat, Prison Heat, Ilsa - the Wicked Warden, or Slammer Girls in many many years.

I certainly hope she is able to sneak a few video-cellphones in. I see a new Paris Hilton in Prison Sex Tape real soon.

I think I need to buy some domain names.

"I don't take pleasure in Paris Hilton being sentenced to prison"

If true, there is something wrong with you.

Guantanamo would have been more suitable for her.

She needs a Code Red, really badly.

She 'forgot' that her license was suspended for 90 days (not 30), and 'forgot' that she had signed a plea (a copy in her glove compartment) acknowledging that, and 'forgot' that she was way overdue on enrolling in a court-mandated substance abuse program. I guess she's been working for Atty Gen. Gonzales and caught a bad case of 'I don't recall'. It's very contagious among Republicans, it seems.

A report I read somewhere said her mother asked the judge for his autograph after the sentencing. If I were judge, I'd put the mama in the cooler for 30 days for contempt of court.

ZERO tolerance, baby!

Firedoglake has a great picture (sans smirk) of Paris being led from the courthouse - and further down an 'uplifting' pic of The Commander Guy.

I always take pleasure from watching a criminal go to jail.

Unfortunately, the rich absolutely do have a totally, vastly different legal system. Sometimes though, they get a reality check.

I live under a rock with regards to all mainstream cultural phenomena outside of politics and sports, so I've never really had any idea what all the anti-Paris sentiment was about. I gather that she's a dumb rich party girl who has a lot of sex, but that doesn't bother me much.

She's a vapid demonstration of the drawbacks of unearned privilege in raising human beings. She is a complete parasite who revels in her parasitism.

I have no doubt she has a brilliant career ahead of her in the GOP.

How is Paris really any different than, say Ted Kennedy?
Joe Kennedy engineered his Senate seat and had a placeholder elected until Teddy reached the age of thirty. Until then, he did what Paris does. Come to think of it, after election, he still did what Paris does.

"How is Paris really any different than, say Ted Kennedy?"

Well, Ted Kennedy has an actual job, for starters, even if he did get it through a bit of nepotism, and that job is one with which he seeks to benefit society as a whole. What has Paris Hilton ever done - or even *attempted* to do - for anyone?
