Continuing praise of hereditary monarchs
(Posted by John.)
Prince Charles: still awesome.
LONDON (AFP) - Prince Charles compared the challenge of tackling climate change to the Allies' struggle in World War II during a speech to business leaders Tuesday.
Addressing representatives from firms including Barclays Bank, British Airways and Rolls-Royce at Saint James's Palace, Charles said that "we need to act very rapidly indeed" to avert environmental disaster.
"We can do it, just think what they did in the last war. Things that seemed impossible were achieved almost overnight," the heir to the throne added.

"I am sensible that there are defects in our federal government, yet they are so much lighter than those of monarchies, that I view them with much indulgence. I rely, too, on the good sense of the people for remedy, whereas the evils of monarchical government are beyond remedy."--Thomas Jefferson.
You FILTHY TORY! Expect me & Jason on your doorstep with a bucket-o-tar and some feathers.

Back off, you guys. Monarchs are my territory. Don't make me start a blog war...

Aarggh. Even the august New York Times gets it wrong. Right now its website says, "Queen of England Arrives in Virginia". No, Virginia, there is no Queen of England. There hasn't been one for three hundred years.

Strange. I have a letter in front of me from Her Royal Highness Queen of England or should I say Great Britian, Thomas Jefferson's remarks were of old and are not even close to the truth today, besides he is a yankee not in the British Commonwealth, I detect a bit of envy in his comments, poor guy probably wanted to be King of USA.

Way I hear it, even the Brits are hardly unanimous that there will be another 'monarch' after Herself. It's been a long time since she got her hands greasy working on her own car ( I don't know about whether she still drives - but speed limits weren't for her ) but there is one thing for sure : if people seriously had problems with the House of Windsor representing the country ( aka the Royals these days ) - they wouldn't.
