Tech Question

I've begun using Skype, which I love. Here's the question though: I would love to do interviews through it and record the conversations for later transcription. Is there software that would allow me to archive my Skype conversations, maybe as mp3s? If it matters, I'm on a Mac.

Here's a list of a bunch of options--most cost money (10-20 bucks) but there is a free one in there. The free one only records in OGG or WAV format, however.

also worth noting that odeo and gabcast let you do this through regular phones, and email you the resulting file. but skype does have superior sound quality, provided everyone's using it w/ their computer.

I recommend Audo Hijack Pro. You can use it to pull the audio coming out of any application on your computer, including Skype.

Audacity will do that, and it's free:

You'll need the LAME encoder (also free) to save your recordings as MP3 - support for WAV and OGG is built-in.

Wiretap should work.

Ezra~
I love and use skype, but the opensource Gizmo Project offers recording of your call in wav format as a part of the built-in interface.

give it a try at
http://www.gizmoproject.com/

It aint the perfect tool for all occasions, but for your purposes it is a humdinger.

This doesn't solve the general case, but when all parties have Macs, this is nice than the other options I've tried:

http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/features/ichatrecording.html

"GarageBand simultaneously records the audio from your chat and assigns different tracks to each participant — identified by buddy name and icon — so you can edit everything seamlessly. And if you’re using iSight cameras to conduct a video chat*, GarageBand even captures a real-time still image every time each guest speaks."
