The Spirit of Edwin Edwards

From Time:

"I'm going to announce tomorrow that I'm not running for reelection and that I'm going to leave Congress," DeLay, who turns 59 on Saturday, said during a 90-minute interview on Monday. "I'm very much at peace with it." He notified President Bush in the afternoon. DeLay and his wife, Christine, said they had been prepared to fight, but that he decided last Wednesday, after months of prayer and contemplation, to spare his suburban Houston district the mudfest to come. "This had become a referendum on me," he said. "So it's better for me to step aside and let it be a referendum on ideas, Republican values and what's important for this district."

So which was it, a dead girl or a live boy?

Update: Ah, this would explain it.

Ding dong, the witch is dead!
Which old witch?
The wicked witch!
Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead!

I vote for a horse's head on his pillow, from Rove and Mehlman. Even the Dukes and Earls can be thrown overboard to remove an election liability.

Next pillow over had the Gannon/Gluckert hairs on it, however.

Delay's not going to delay getting into the lobby biz to make some money before God's Own Party is thrown into the minority in the new Congress.

Maybe he's also wanting to be Rumsfeld's successor for the Iran war with some more no-bid contracts to award for special friends who are appreciative.

History will nail Delay as the worst corrupter of the public's business since probably the Grant administration. But the wicked witch isn't dead, yet. The purifying witch burning has not been kindled with the faggots (non-homosexual reference intended) of modern Republican greed and lies.

Oh, and where's Fred tonight with his wisdom about Delay?

Thanks for thinking of me. If he is found guilty, let him hang. However, that hasn't happened yet. Just like Mr. Clinton, I will reserve any judgment and let the justice system do its job.
Delay has been out of power for some time now. I guess when you lose constantly, however, *any* event that even appears to help your party is cause for celebration!!

Party on!

OK I'm from New Orleans and have no love for Eddie but please, comparing him to Delay is such an insult. At least Edwards committed his crimes in style!

I mean when I was in high school and he was on trial for some infraction or other, he posed himself with some Catholic girls school in uniform. Talk about a photo op!

This isn't the last we'll see of The Hammer. Theres plenty of private sector K-street jobs available. He'll be roaming the halls, or just outside the halls, for years to come. He'll just switch from a job funded by taxpayer dollars to a...well, um, actually...a job funded by taxpayer dollars.

At least Edwards committed his crimes in style!

Indeed; he also had a way with words, and one hell of a sense of humor. I remember when he was running against David Duke, and he said they had one thing in common: "we're both wizards beneath the sheets".

Man, the spin that the wingnuts are putting on this today could power the entire Con Ed customer base and a fleet of nuclear submarines to boot.
Tom, enjoy "spending some time with your family".

Hey Tom - do you remember the bumper sticker

"Vote for the Crook it's important"

Gotta "love" that one.

I think everyone is being too hard on him. He was just too Christian for Congress, that's all.
