SWM W/ PPO ISO SWF NO PRXSTNG CNDTNS PLS!

Readers will remember my argument on how our employer-based health system stands in the way of true love. Turns out, in some cases, it facilitates it. Whether it's a good thing that online daters have begun tacking comprehensive health insurance to their list of attributes, though, is for the reader to decide.

In your screenplay, you should have the the woman marry for health insurance and the man marry for a green card and they accidently find true love as they fill out all the paperwork.

Believe it or not, I actually knew of a married couple like that. The guy was marrying for insurance and the girl was marrying for a green card. The marriage didn't last though.

This is old news. Friends of mine have stayed married (despite living separate lives) in order for the wife to access her husband's employer-financed healthcare for a chronic condition. Purchasing individual health coverage would cost her more than $500 a month.

OK Neil, then you get to write the screenplay. It wouldn't be a bad deal for someone here on a work visa (H1-B?). You pretty much have to put up with whatever crap your employer gives you or your immigration status is jeoparized.

Certainly discourages the visa holder from asking for a raise, but I guess for the company sponsor that's a feature, not a bug.
