Let Them Eat Wedding Cake!
By Pepper of the Daily Pepper
As a follow-up to Shakespeare's Sister's great post on British royalty, let's see what the heirs to the Bush throne have been up to lately.
Of course, given that George II and Laura gave birth to girls, it's surprising that George II hasn't divorced Laura for a new brood-mare. (Neil Shakespeare ponders George II's brood-mare choices, and Britney Spears appears to be the front-runner.) But that doesn't mean that the Bush family isn't on the lookout for a suitable mate for one of the twins, one who may eventually rise to the head of the empire. In fact, World of Crap has kept her finger on the gossip pulse of DC, and both Jenna and Barbara appear to be auditioning their mates.
Much was made last year of Jenna working in a charter school and Barbara helping AIDS victims in Africa. In that sense, perhaps they are "giving back" in the same way as Price William is, but they must have plenty of time for dating.
Jenna seems to have had more success snaring an up-and-coming wingnut, per WOC:
When it comes to romance, Jenna Bush isn't crossing party lines. The First Twin is dating 26 year-old Bush campaign aide Henry Hager. Hager - the guy snapped nuzzling her neck at an inaugural party - has been escorting Jenna all over Washington, including Georgetown's popular Smith's Point.
This was from last January, and the two are still together, suggesting that if George II couldn't spawn a boy, then this Hager fellow might fit the bill. King Henry. Why not? P
oor Barbara, or "Babs," as I like to call her since I don't want to mix her up with her pitbull of a grandmother, is still stuck in the shadows, but she's trying to land a wingnut of her very own. World of Crap has the update about Babs' boy toy, a certain Jay Blount, who worked with Hastert and has more than a little in common with Babs' daddy:
Since that time, [Blount]'s gone to Yale to get his MBA. The story is that Jay was allegedly unqualified for Yale Business school, but after President Bush sent a letter of recommendation on his behalf, he magically became qualified not only for admission, but also for a scholarship which covered his tuition for the year. While some thought that this didn't seem fair, others held that there has to be some reward for protecting a First Daughter's virginity for all these years.
So, whether it's Jenna or Babs (I'm betting on Jenna), be on the lookout for a lavish wedding that the masses can enjoy.

We've replaced this thoughtful, reality-based blog with the leftwing equivalent of Hillary-obsessing. Let's see if anyone can tell the difference.

Why do you keep calling him George II? He's the third (look at a dollar bill).

I agree.
However, the difference is the liberals are on the outside looking in.

Dear Blar, I post on weekends, which is generally the time for puffier pieces. I'm an entertainment writer, which I have said time and again in my previous posts, and I'm not pretending to write anything heavy.
Loosen up a little, and if you don't like it, then read the "reality-based" posts that you clearly prefer. I just visited your blog, and I rather liked your piece about frings and beanie-weenies, which wasn't heavy at all, so I can see that you have a sense of humor in there somewhere.
As for you, Fred, the liberals are "on the outside looking in." And so are you. I seriously doubt that you'll receive an invite to Jenna's wedding either.

Shorter Pepper: You hurt my feelings, you big meanies!!

Jones, what's your deal? You say libs are "on the outside looking in," yet you don't have a blog yourself. Pepper wrote a thoughtful response to you and you say she's just whining. I never get what you're saying, dude.

Really?? Here, let me recap the "thoughtful response" you so lovingly refer to:

Geez, with thought4ful responses like that, who needs snark?

lol, "protecting a first daughter's virginity?"
Swetie, no. I think you fail to understand that virginity pledges are for people without rich daddies. This applies to the females as much as the males.
Perhaps this boy is clever enough to tell the wingnut media what they want to hear. This makes him politically valuable, not credible.
Don't know how to break it to you, but a rich hedonist is just as lustful as a poor one-they just smell better longer, because they can afford more expensive perfume.
but lol-if Jenna and little Jay are disciplined, self-denying virgins, then I'm the Queen of Sheba.

Well, if I've got Fred Jones agreeing with me, then I must have done something right. Right? Right?
Pepper, this is just a one post complaint. I've liked some of the other stuff you've posted (Sharpton's TV show comes to mind). I don't mind bits of fluff within a Serious Blog (sometimes I enjoy it, and if not I can just pass over it quickly), but I think that this kind of post actually detracts from the blog. Delving into people's personal lives with a political axe to grind and no tact, telling stories that have minimal basis in reality (looking for brood-mares?), attributing unseemly motivations to people just to fit your story, judging people to be insult-worthy by association (aren't you supposed to call people wingnuts when they showcase their nutty right-wing political views, not when they take a job as a campaign aide?), ... . I know it's not meant to be taken all that seriously (which is why my first comment wasn't all that serious either), but still.
By the way, my frings post was not mere puffery. It was a contribution to a Super-Serious Discussion on cutting-edge linguistics. A real-life professional linguist is still pondering its implications, and if you share your linguistic intuitions in the comments then you could be a part of the Future of Linguistics. To find true hilarity, you have to go back another two posts to the one about Christian conservatives' response to Bush's "Holiday" cards. Yes, life is funny.

Blar,
A reasoned post. However, Please know that Ezra already knows all of this as do the rest of the folks.
The motivation is hate.
