Too Far?
Not to be all uptight and prudish about it, but isn't deploying your online minions to unmask the author of this personals ad a bit fucked up? Granted, the thought of a gay, successful writer who's still invoking his wrestling days makes for funny copy, but outing him seems a bit beyond the pale.

It seems homophobic. Why is invoking one's wrestling days any more amusing because the guy's gay? How may personals profiles of straight guys reference the halcyon days of high school football? I'm going to guess a lot.

It's homophobic and prudish, and all without the entertaining froth of revelation. Gawker does nothing for me. At least Dobson is scary.

"but outing him seems a bit beyond the pale."
Unless he disagrees with you politically, or did you already forget Gannon-Guckert?

After all, I'm a (quasi)successful writer and ex-wrestler and that's not particularly funny. Man, being hetero makes me so much less humorous.

Edited for bigotry. Fred's mother must be so proud.

I don't give a good goddamn about Jimmy/Jeff being gay. But it did matter that a PROSTITUTE had access to the White House that many legitimate journalists didn't have.
Oh wait, it's that false equivalence thing again, isn't it? Man, you guys really are disciplined about applying that to every single argument, aren't you?

So? Sex work should be legal and regulated. The focus should not have been on Guckert's main day job, but on White House willingness to bend its own rules to insert a stooge into the press corps. Unfortunately, that sort of reasoned critique doesn't play nearly as well as simple repetitions of the word 'manwhore', but so be it.
Of course Captain Cognitive Dissonance does fail to distinguish between a single personals ad and participating in the executive conspiracy to manage the press, but when you're so stoned you vote for the party that wants to confiscate your property and put you in jail, thinking is probably not your strong suit.
Sorry for the flame, CT, but you've earned it.

Edited for bigotry.
This really shows the sad and pathetic attempts to suppress what most of this country feels. In this bubble, he can do so, but in the real world....well, we all know how the elections and referendums on this subject have been going so GOOD LUCK with silencing the rest of the country.
You're right, in this bubble, I can do so, and you will abide by it. If you want to indulge in bigotry, you're welcome to head to Texas and never return to this site again. Really, be my guest. So long as you want to occupy the webspace I pay for, however, you will play by my rules.

At one time, most of the country felt that Blacks weren't really human. At one time, women were widely regarded as not having souls. At various times in history, millions of people have rallied around, fought and died for causes based on nothing more than subtle differences in religion and/or skin tone.
And it still goes on today. Wrong is wrong, Fred. I would think that a conservative, a part of a movement that prides itself on rejecting relativistic thinking would understand that. It just doesn't matter that a lot of people feel a certain way.
Your martyr complex is particularly repugnant when you apply it to an issue such as this. Trying to keep people from using hateful language to refer to other human beings is not "silencing the rest of the country."
I could go on, but suffice it to say that the level of unsubstantiated anger and moral relativism exhibited in your comments to this thread have been disappointing and a bit repulsive.

I wasn't tring to break your rules. If your rules are that everyone must agree with you, then you may have a point.

That's pretty fucked up, why even link to it? Assholes like that shouldn't be given web traffic.

Leaving aside the ethics of hounding some successful Manhattanite writer, one must bear in mind that people lie when writing these personals. Judging from personals, every man is a 6'5" superstud with muscles the size of Ukraine, 1/3rd of the equity of Microsoft, a sense of humour that would put Terry Pratchett to shame, and a foot-long, 8" girth penis. Every woman, of course, is a rabid anal sex fiend with DD cup breasts, a 21" waist, blonde hair, blue eyes, etc. What if this "successful writer" really means, "I got a few articles published in a few obscure magazines with circulations hovering around 3,000?"

Fred's mother must be so proud.
Yes, she is, along with the vast majority of this nation and the overwhelming citizens of the world. Yes, they are all proud that I have the 'nads to stand in a snake pit and say what the whole world feels.

Snake pit? Fred, you mistyped the URL if you were looking for a snake pit. Here, I'll help you out:

Fred, buddy, I'm getting kinda worried for you. You've got this whipsaw thing going on, moving from abused victim to valiant hero - I wonder what's next?
BTW, if this is a snakepit, I want to be a Black Mamba. Those guys are fucking awesome!

"If you want to indulge in bigotry, you're welcome to head to Texas"
Thanks loads, Ezra. Not that we'd really notice another new one.
Houston rocks, Fred. Really. The stories lie, better climate than Dallas.

"What the whole world feels..."
Sorry, I forgot to include almost all of the Democratic politicians as well...

You pansy liberals can't stand it that I annonymously yet bravely tell it like it is in the comments section of a blog. I am a warrior for truth. As another great marine once said 'you can't handle the truth'
