Too Bad That Didn't Work Out
Just watching "Journeys With George", and this line from Bush's speech really jumped out:
We need a standard-bearer who is the voice of those who live on the outskirts of poverty.
Boy do we ever.

Bush does speak for those on the 'outskirts of poverty' - those making more than $100-150k a year and up. He didn't mention those living in poverty.
Brad Plumer quotes the NY Times:
"The top fifth of earners in Manhattan now make 52 times what the lowest fifth make - $365,826 compared with $7,047 - which is roughly comparable to the income disparity in Namibia, according to the Times analysis of 2000 census data."
I suspect that more than 20% of New Orleans inner-city citizens (comparable to Manhattan?) live in officially defined poverty. A minimum wage job working full time for a year is about $12,000.
Bush's voice doesn't extend that far down the economic scale because his mind cannot comprehend it or he just doesn't want to know about it - like he doesn't know that his Brown-appointee to FEMA has no qualifications and has helped destroy a city.
