Hillary Gone Wild
Hillary busted out of the gate this morning with one of those take-no-prisoners addresses that does our shriveled little partisan hearts such good:
Mrs. Clinton, who is running for a second term in 2006 and is widely described as a possible Democratic nominee for the presidency in 2008, said that her party is hamstrung because Republicans dissemble and smear without shame and the news media has lost its investigatory zeal for exposing misdeeds.
Left unchallenged, especially if Democrats fail to pick up seats in next year's Congressional elections, she said, Republican leaders could ram through extremist conservative judges, wreck Social Security and make unacceptable concessions to China, Saudi Arabia and other nations that are needed to finance the United States budget deficit.
Read the whole thing, particularly the part where she ticks off the scandals that the press should be pursuing, but isn't.

» Testicular fortitude on display from The Disenchanted Forest
In recent months, NY Senate Democrat Hillary Clinton has kept her moderate side on display, but, at Ezra points out, Clinton went balls out today castigating the Bush administration & the Republican party at her first re-election fundraiser. [Read More]

For a Democratic politician these days, castigating "the press," even though the criticizm may be well founded, is the easy way out. What Dem politicians should do is pump up the volume a little and unapologetically attack everything about the GOP agenda. When the GOP cries foul or attempts to explain itself, we say it again, only louder. Maybe then the press will pick up the story. That's he way the GOP has done things for years. Might do us well to take a page from their playbook.

Cool! Now, how long til' Tim Russert and crew get Joe Biden to "distance" himself from Hillary and stab Dems in the back?

What I wanna know is why don't the rest of the democratic politicians out there have the balls to speak out against the obivous excesses of the GOP? I posted about this on my blog:

Ezra, if you're monitoring these comments, have you seen the AP story about Republicans seeing a "glimmer of hope" in California?
The news hook - boilerplate from Mehlman - is just ridiculous.
But
Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman insists GOP prospects are improving, thanks to demographic changes and Schwarzenegger's star power.
"There's tremendous opportunity here because of the governor and his leadership, and because of
President Bush and his leadership," Mehlman said in a recent interview.
I mean, does that make any sense? For all their leadership, don't the Republican president and governor have 40% approval ratings in CA?
Considering the "ha ha, who is he kidding?" tone you get from reporters when Howard Dean visits Bush-voting states with very popular Dem governors (Kansas, West Virginia) or unpopular GOP governors (Alabama, Missouri), this is absurd. Do reporters' senses of reality just break down when Arnold is the subject?

Speaking of Hillary, here's something a little off-topic: A couple of days ago, when reading Ben Stein's idiotic mouthings at The American Spectator, I noticed in the banner at the top a weird anti-Hillary ad. Very, very direct in its Luciferian-portryal. It says:
STOP HER NOW. Help us rescue America from the radical ideas of Hillary Clinton. CLICK HERE to Stop Her Now!
If'n you do, it takes you to this nuthouse, complete with random capitalization and what looks like badly photoshopped photos.

Thanks for the laugh, TJ. I like the part where they talk about Bill Clinton's vicious attacks on them. They don't tell us what they were, or when, or where, but we can be sure that they were viciously attacked! They said so!
Given their choice of photos, I think that most of their problem with Hillary is that they don't find her very attractive. You know, she's no Ann Coulter, with those huge hands and protruding Adam's Apple. . .mmmmmm.

Hillary gets enormous credit for identifying the central problem in American politics today - lying Republicans and the media that let them.
Until the American people can get this through their heads - no, no small feat - Dems and liberals and anyone else who actually cares about solving problems will get absolutely nowhere. We will lose, and lose again, then lose some more.

Anybody get the sense that the words sort of stick in the Times's craw?

Pretty decent coverage... This ran in the NY Region section; wonder what the reporter's beat is?

A couple of quotes from the Hillary article:
"There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda,"
&
"I can tell you this: It's very hard to stop people who have no shame about what they're doing. It is very hard to tell people that they are making decisions that will undermine our checks and balances and constitutional system of government who don't care. It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth."
These quotes make Dean's a bit tame, doncha think?
By chance I caught the end of Tweety's "8th Anniversary" show -- "8-ball" :) -- last night (6th) with some of the 14 Senatorial compromisers.
Chrissie ran the usual hacked clip of Dean's speech and went the round of Dem. Senators there: Salazar played bobblehead and giggled, Nelson smirked and nodded knowingly to Chrissie's come-ons, but Landrieu scored beautifully immediately by changing the topic to what Dean said about the problems with people trying to vote.
Flipped over to C-SPAN where Sens. Reid and Dorgan were discussing Dem. legislative plans. Reid got the usual "Dean" question from the press audience and replied something to the effect that "you can spin that topic all you want but we're here to talk about legislation".
Well, now I know of 3 Democratic Senators who have the BALLS to stand up to the right-wing crap-fest and who have the brains to know how to handle it!
BRAVO!

Stephen and TJ,
STOP HER NOW is run by Arthur Finkelstein, a gay, Massachusetts resident who was recently married. I believe that he has also worked for Jesse Helms in the past using gay smearing tactics. Bill Clinton's attacks amounted to nothing more than calling Finkelstein on his hypocrisy.
